Lavallee wins indoor and outdoor national titles By Scott Taylor She might be legally blind, but Christie Lavallee of St. Ambroise, Man., is the best junior 3-D archer in the nation. Period. After spending much of 2014 on the sidelines with a serious shoulder injury, Lavallee returned with a bang in 2015. In fact, during the winter, Lavallee won both the Provincial and National Indoor Junior 3D Archery Championship and then in July 12 she won the Provincial Outdoor title and in August, she was the National Championship. Now, both the national indoor and outdoor champion, Lavallee will now set her sights on National Senior Competition – and she knows it won’t be easy. My focus will be switching toward my studies at the University of Manitoba,” said Lavallee, a proud Metis woman from St. Ambroise, Man. “I am now in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Genetics Programs at the U of M. One of my goals is to write the MCAT in July 2017. I’m going to have to try to balance my studies along with my archery training as well. “I would like to compete next year, but because I turn 21 in March of 2016, I am now going to have to move up to the Senior Women’s Division. The Senior Women’s Division includes Archers that range in age from 21 to 49. I am considering competing at the Indoor and Outdoor Provincial and National 3D Archery Championships as well as possibly the IBO World 3D Championships, which will be held in the Northwest US next season, but PROMOTIONS Street Teams & Event Staff • Product demonstrations • Liquor samplers • Bar and club promotional models • Golf caddies and sport event staff • Trade show support • Live music/DJ’s Serving • Hostessing for private and corporate events • Licensed bartenders and servers Modelling • Film & Television • Music Videos • Photo Shoots • Fashion Shows & Pageants • Hair & Make Up Artists and Stylists GET IN TOUCH WITH US TODAY [email protected] • www.roguepromo.com 24 / sportslife school is a major priority for me.” Although school will be the priority, she obviously has no thoughts of giving up archery. In fact, she has improved every year in which she’s competed and believes she will only get better as she gets more experience. But there is little question, she’s come a long, long way. Lavallee started 3-D Archery in 2009 and then won the Provincial Junior Compound 3-D Archery championship in 2013. Later that month, she won the National Championship in Alberta. Last spring, she was named Manitoba Archer of the Year, presented by the Archers and Bowhunters Association of Manitoba. “3-D Archery works like this,” she explained. “We shoot animal targets It’s almost that time of year again!
