taking the title, but more importantly
he gained significant national ranking
points for his next tournament.
It was an impressive performance
by a young man in only his second
Canadian event.
“Having Vo here could be the best
thing that ever happened to us here,”
said Archie Chawla, who was just
inducted into Manitoba’s Sports Hall
of Fame and has been in the racquets
dodge in Manitoba for 45 years. “Just
his presence alone has brought up
the level of play. The other kids say,
‘OK, I want to play harder, I want to
play better.’ They have a target now.
Before, their targets were either from
someplace else or were much older.
Now they have a 17-year-old playing
alongside them who is already one of
the best players in the country.
