This time, we’ll catch up with a number of the star athletes who have been so sensational in 2015 Thornborough Leads Canada at Rugby Super Series Brandon’s Amanda Thornborough had another summer representing Canada at an international rugby competition. In fact, Canada narrowly lost to England 15-14 in the final game of the Women’s Rugby Super Series (WRSS) at Ellerslie Rugby Park in Edmonton, but it certainly wasn’t for a lack of effort of from Thornborough. With Canada trailing 10-6, six minutes into the second half, Thornborough reached the line after sustained Canadian pressure inside the England 22, giving the home side an 11-10 edge. Canada couldn’t hold on despite a strong attack in the final nine minutes, but Thornborough, who played every game in the tournament, was one of Canada’s top players. Omwenga Wins 2015 Manitoba Marathon Thomas Omwenga won his second Manitoba Marathon. On a beautiful Sunday morning in June on the streets of Winnipeg, the 35-year-old Kenyan, who has been living and training in Hamilton, Ont., broke away from the pack early and ran by himself for most of the race, completing the 42.195-kilomtre course in a leisurely two hours, 34 minutes and 17.8 seconds. This year, there were more than 10,200 runners taking part in all of the Marathon’s events – the full marathon, half marathon, relay, 10-km run and the 2.6-mile super run. Omwenga, who also won the 2012 marathon, beat Winnipeg’s Bradley Keefe who completed the 37th Manitoba Marathon in a time of 2:36.54. Les Friesen of Steinbach was third in 2:48.25. 6 / sportslife
