Karate on the Beach What Else Would You Do on a Warm, Sunny Day? By Scott Taylor, Photos by OV Suvajac When the weather gets warm in Manitoba, you pretty much have to be outside. Better yet, you need to be at the beach. Guess that’s what Charleswood Karate Sensei Ron Porath, Winnipeg Budokai Shotokan Karate Club Sensei Clive Hinds, Lac du Bonnet Karate Club Sensei Dave Ogren and Stonewall Karate Club Sensei Deborah Hinds were thinking when they decided that Karate on the Beach would be a good idea. Evidently, it was. It’s annual event, of course, and back on July 25, it was a gorgeous, sunny warm Saturday morning so why not head out to Grand Beach for the Annual Training and Family Picnic Day? The sun bathers/spectators were amused to see the martial artists kicking and splashing each other. It was a lot of fun for both the participants as well as the onlookers. And yes, everyone was soaked to the bone. l 36 / sportslife
