From The
They say April showers
brings May flowers but this
is becoming a little ridicu-
lous. The Western New York
weather has not been co-
operating with the Spring
season. Instead of playing
games, games have been
cancelled due to rain, cold
and yes snow.
With a shorter season due
to Easter falling late, schools
have been trying to play
around with schedules to
make sure all their league
games are getting in. It has
been a real headache for
coaches and players - since
teams can’t even get outside
to practice because of the
wet weather.
As we enter the May issue
of the magazine, we have
seen are reach grow more
and more. Our numbers are
up across the board since
January of this year, and we
expect that to continue. We
love brining you the best fea-
ture stories in WNY in our
magazine and our website,
www.sportsunionny.
com. We don’t
expect to slow
down
anytime
soon - either be-
cause of the sum-
mer seasons.
In the May issue,
we have features on
all kind of different
student-athletes.
Let’s talk about a
chance
meeting
with a coach during
the summer that led
to a Division I oppor-
tunity. That happen
with Coastal Caroli-
na’s Kieran Higgins.
Higgins went from
junior college to Divi-
sion I in a blink of an
eye.
Sara Riso has been
successful on the links ever
since she could remember.
But, even the best have to
struggle sometimes to get
better. Check out what the
Siena College golfer did to
overcome early struggles on
the link.
Being an athlete is hard
enough, being a stu-
dent-athlete is even harder.
Breanna Sikora takes being
a student-athlete to a new
level. The Mt. Mercy Acad-
emy senior is on the tennis
team, sings for Pure Magic,
is a top student and has a
job. But, for her it’s all in a
days work.
Check out these stories
and more in the May issue
