Amman United
RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
T
he Amman United RFC was officially formed in 1903, although rugby
first began in Cwmamman as far back as 1894. It was then that Josiah
Rogers formed a team, which he called ‘Penybont Rovers’ named from the field
on which they played in Glanamman. From this early and sound beginning grew
the Amman United, as it is known today.
And this season is won that will be
remembered for a long time with their
first team winning all their league games
and also claiming victory in the Bowl.
Rugby Club Magazine recently caught
up with Club Representative Jamie
Davies to find out more.

He told us, “After the Bowl victory
on the 16th April against Caerphilly, the
mood in the club, and throughout the
community I should add, is one of slight
delirium. It was a day to remember
which will go down as one of the, if not
the greatest in the history of the club to
date.
It is hard to argue against the season
being any better. We have lost some
key players to injury over the course
of the year, notably Liam Mangan and
Talfan Alcock for long periods, but there
is enough strength in depth within the
squad to negate those losses.”
