Chester-le-Street “Chester-le-Street Amateur Swimming club is clearly playing a fantastic role in their local community by providing people with the chance to improve their swimming skills in a safe, enjoyable and competitive environment.” There are no age limits set against of any of the squads with swimmers able to move up or down depending on how coaches judge their skill and progress. Particularly talented swimmers can also be selected for further training with Swim England and British Swimming. Performance Squads The club’s performance squads are their top level squads which are coached by Head Coach Gary Henshaw and are known as the A and B1 squads. The entry level for these squads is National or Regional qualifying standard as well as a minimum training commitment of seven sessions across a six day training programme. This training is made up of swimming, flexibility and stretching and metafit sessions. CrossFit is also part of the programme although it is paid for separately. Age Group Squads The Age Group Development squads are in place for swimmers that have achieved or are working towards achieving county and regional qualifying times. These squads are known as B2 and B3 and are both coached by Lorraine Lawrence. There is a minimum commitment of six sessions for B2 swimmers and five sessions for B3 across a six day training programme. Stroke Development Squads These squads are divided into three levels; C, D and E with the focus being on developed good technique across the four strokes, general water skills as well as introducing swimmers to competitive skills such as racing starts and turns. They have three stroke development coaches in Kevin Burns, Stephanie Trevisan and Vicki Piggott who are ably assisted by a number of assistant and trainee coaches.
