CRICKET CLUB
Appleton CC is a fine example of how a strong set up off the field
can help a club to thrive and be successful. Sport in Profile Magazine
recently caught up with Club Representative David Hurst to find out
more about how the club is getting along at present.
He told us. “I am currently Treasurer
of Appleton CC in Cheshire. I first
started playing at Appleton in 1977 at
seventeen years old. I had been playing
junior cricket for several years at another
bigger local club and was a regular on
their U18 team. Surprisingly they did
not offer a pathway to play open age
cricket.”
“I decided to move to Appleton
where I was made incredibly welcome.
I started off in the Sunday team. The

following year I became a second team
regular and two years after that I became
an established 1st XI player. I was
offered opportunities to bat and bowl
when I joined the Club, which helped
my development tremendously and to
this day one of the Club’s principles is

“I have been at the club now for 40
years. I have been Treasurer for 29 years
and had two stints as 1st XI Captain in
1983/4 and 2000/09 where the 1st team
won four trophies during my tenure. I
have been an ECB qualified coach since
2004.
“My journey as Club Treasurer has
been interesting and eventful, from
dealing with the insurance fall out from
two major fires to being part of the team
that acquired our ground in 1997. We
