ICE HOCKEY CLUB
Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey Club is a fine example of the
success that can be achieved with a strong set up behind the
scenes. Sport in Profile Magazine takes a look at how they
have been getting along lately.
Last season they put together a solid league
campaign as they compiled a record of
eighteen wins and twelve defeats from
their thirty two matches with one
overtime and one shootout loss. This
set of results meant they finished in
a play-off position with thirty eight
points on the board.
This saw them enter the play-offs
and they took on Nottingham in
the first round. It was a tightly
contested series that eventually
saw the Steelers win 2-1 thanks
to a nail-biting 7-6 victory in the
decider.
They then played Belfast Giants
in the semi-final and produced an
accomplished display to come away
with a 2-0 victory. This set up a final
against Cardiff Devils who had already
won the league and the Challenge Cup.
It was Cardiff who struck first through Guillaume
Doucet and, after John Armstrong had
equalised, they raced into a 3-1 lead at
the interval thanks to Joey Haddad and
Joey Martin.
The Steelers showed tremendous
spirit to get themselves back in
the game and led following
Geoff Walker, Colton Fretter
and Matthieu Roy scores before
Haddad pegged them back.
Walker then gave the Steelers
the lead once more but Andrew
Holtham levelled it leaving it
to Levi Nelson to step forward
and score the winner as Sheffield
emerged victorious 6-5 in a real
thriller.
Being crowned Play-off Champions is a
fantastic achievement for the club and is a
just reward for all of the hard work that has
