Wightlink Warriors Over the years Isle of Wight Speedway has put together a history of which it has every right to be proud with their most recent success coming in the National League Trophy which they won in 2013. They have also enjoyed success in the Young Shield which they have picked up on two occasions in 1998 and 2001 and the Pairs which they have been crowned Champion of twice also, most recently in 2007. Everyone currently involved with the Warriors will be keen to add to these successes over the coming years. The sport was successfully re-launched in 2016 on the island and the team now competes in the National League between the months of April and September. So far this season it would be fair to say that they have not perhaps enjoyed the campaign that they would have liked, having compiled a record of three wins and ten defeats from their thirteen meetings. This sees them lying near the bottom of the table. They will be keen to pick up some more wins over their remaining meets and are confident that they can pick up some positive results. As long as they are able to do so they should be in with a good chance of climbing away from the bottom sides. Away from the racing itself, Wightlink Warriors is able to boast some fantastic facilities with their Premier Lounge Bar which serves soft and alcoholic drinks as well as hot food. They also have a Burger Bar and Club Track Shop as well as a 440 seater Grandstand. Having high quality facilities is vital for the club, firstly because it helps to improve the experience of any supporters visiting the meets. This will encourage more people to support the team and helps to cement them as a vital part of the local community. Another major benefit of the superb facilities is that they have the potential to provide Wightlink Warriors with a valuable source of additional revenue. This is particularly important in the current financial climate and will be vital in ensuring the long term future and prosperity of the team. Although Wightlink Warriors would have liked to have picked up a few more wins than they currently have, this should not take away from the good work that they have been doing lately. The people working behind the scenes to make this possible deserve tremendous credit. If they are able to continue in the same manner then they should be able to look forward to a bright and successful future for many years to come. Everyone at Sport in Profile Magazine would like to take this opportunity to wish them the best of luck. “Although Wightlink Warriors would have liked to have picked up a few more wins than they currently have, this should not take away from the good work that they have been doing lately.” www.sportip.biz 21
