The committee is getting organised for the season ahead – everything from updating the website, confirming sponsorship arrangements, planning coaching qualifications and processing DBS applications, updating the club handbook and of course reaching out to potential new players. “Starting in September we will again be hosting U13 to U17 Junior Development Centre (JDC) Hockey. These sessions give young players a chance to improve their games and match experience, and also are a chance to progress to JAC (Junior Academy Centres). They also introduce over 40 young players to Wellingborough Hockey Club, our facilities and our coaches. “The youth development at ‘Boro’ is one of the most successful and rewarding parts of the club. On Tuesday nights we often have over 50 juniors from U9 upwards at training, and each season we have waves of players transitioning into the mixed U16 Badgers team and the senior teams. 32 Issue 10 “We are absolutely a community club it’s hard wired into the club constitution. The club’s objectives are that WHC will promote and encourage hockey to all ages throughout Wellingborough, foster friendship between members and players associated with hockey, and maintain the reputation of WHC as a ‘friendly’ and ‘good sporting’ club. “All clubs face similar challenges in attracting and retaining members to help them invest and develop players, and we are no different. That said, there are enormous opportunities still for ‘Boro’ to mature further as a club and reach out to new parts of the community. Having a committed and enthusiastic committee makes me feel really positive this season! “In terms of running the club, by the end of this season we plan to have our ClubsFirst accreditation in place from England Hockey to further demonstrate the club is providing a safe, effective and child-friendly hockey environment. “On the pitch, we’d like the club to grow enough to field three strong senior mens and ladies teams (at the moment we have two of each), and a larger junior section to help maintain the stability of a ‘home grown’ core in our senior sides in the future. If we could also start a Vets team I’d be personally delighted! “Other than that, if the club can continue prioritising being welcoming, competitive and fun, things always tend to fall into place.” Proud to sponsor Wellingborough Hockey Club co m m e r ci a l pr o pe r t y solu t ion s DEAL DEAL MAKER WINNER NORTHAMPTONSHIRE NORTHAMPTONSHIRE 2011 2012 2013 2014 2013 2015 DEAL DEAL MAKER WINNER NORTHAMPTONSHIRE NORTHAMPTONSHIRE 2011 2012 2013 2014 2013 2015 DEAL DEAL the mark of property professionalism worldwide MAKER WINNER NORTHAMPTONSHIRE NORTHAMPTONSHIRE 2011 2012 2013 2014 DEAL DEAL MAKER WINNER NORTHAMPTONSHIRE NORTHAMPTONSHIRE 2011 2012 2013 2014 2013 2015 2013 2015
