Sport in Profile Magazine caught up with their Chairman recently to find out more about the good work that they’ve been doing lately. Involvement HE told us, “I first started playing shinty at the tender age of 7 years old, although from family photo albums it’s evident that I had a caman in my hands from earlier than that. All my shinty playing years have been at Glenurquhart , from juvenile level through to premier league and following an untimely injury I retired from actively playing and joined the committee in 2010.” The Role “At the beginning of this year I had the privilege of being voted in as chairman. As a club we have a fantastic youth structure that has grown from strength to strength. In this modern day and age where the Xbox is becoming more popular than a hit about in the park it is great to see more and more youngster participating in shinty and keeping them interested is a key part of strengthening the number of players that make it to senior shinty. This cannot be accomplished without the hard work of volunteers, committee members and players both past and present; it’s humbling to see those of all ages proudly hold on to a red and black shirt. With such a wide spectrum of people involved in running the club opinions can differ and from time to time this brings its own challenges – but life would be boring if everybody thought the same way!” 6 Issue 08
