hesterfield Hockey Club is a progressive establishment committed to providing people from their area with an
opportunity to enjoy the game. We caught up with their Chairman Gary McCormick to find out more about the good
work that they have been doing lately.
Last Season
He told us, “Last season was a disappointment for the First team.
The previous season they were undefeated in the Midlands
Division 2 and were promoted to Division 1, thanks mainly to our
two Australian imports. Due to university commitments, neither of
the Aussies could return for last season.
We were lucky to pick up three Greek players but the team were
unable to come up with the 40 league goals scored by the Aussies,
and despite a strong finish towards the end of the season, they
were relegated back to Midlands Division 2. The Second team had
an excellent season and gained promotion, with the third team
