SPLICED GAMING / ISSUE 01 REVIEW / GTA V S ome of the social commentary, whilst on point, is somewhat hypocritical when in one instant it's parodying Facebook with its Lifeinvader spoof site, but then in the next breath asks you if you want to link your game to your actual Facebook or Twitter account to advertise. It's a minor thing, but it irked me just a little. That aside though, GTA V doesn't just reinvent the genre, it transcends it. To call this game a sandbox would be doing it an injustice, because no sandbox could ever be filled with this many organic, living, real experiences and at such scale. I spent three hours playing tennis. I also spent another good few of hours just reading characters Lifeinvader profiles, watching the ridiculously funny animated series (my favourite being a spoof of The Power Rangers) and even the ridiculous 'Art Films' screened in the various movie theatres around San Andreas. To see a re-emergence of the humour the game has always been famed for was wonderful, and it helped to downplay the overall seriousness of the tone that was set in GTA IV. GTA V is a game that should be played just for the experience. You don't even have to be a fan of the genre. Give it five minutes. Which will turn to ten. Which will then turn into a week.? 9 Verdict GTA V is possibly one of the best games you'll play for a long time. It’s not without faults but a thoroughly enjoyable experience for both fans and newcomers to the franchise. 92
