is Rami Ismail of indie developer
Vlambeer, makers of Super Crate
Box, who also attended A MAZE.
/ Johannesburg 2013. We chatted
to him prior to his keynote speech,
to find a somewhat philosophical
approach to game development,
and an interest on the impact of
your actions as a force for good.
Rami appears to share much of
the A MAZE philosophies, those
of freedom, enjoyment and the
pushing of perceived boundaries.
His partner at Vlambeer brings
the theme of impact to their games,
and the idea that in order to make a
good game, you should make things
as impactful as possible.

SHITTY GAMES
a run through of a dungeon shooting
enemies and creatures with pixels, I gained
experience and went up a level, adjusted
my attributes, like health, damage, speed,
range, and fire rate. I continued forward
and found myself in a room with 4 chests
and one key, opened it up and got a "split
shot" power up. Apparently the game is
full of these power ups, you can carry up to
three, and they stack on each other creating
some bizarre shooting mechanics. There
are even power ups that make it harder
to shoot, like that ridiculous split shot,
which made me have to change the way I
approach enemies.
The reason Pixel Boy was my favourite
was because I thought it was the most
original game on show. I could see myself
playing it over and over on my iPad,
