SPLICED LIFE /
TATTOOS / INTERVIEW WITH MILO "MR LUCKY" MARCER

funny, intense and anxious, it's
just a matter of opening yourself
to them, and they will respond. I
hardly ever have bad experiences
with clients. I have had one or two
that I just could not find common
ground with, and I either didn't
tattoo them, or made clear I didn't
ever want to tattoo them again, but
that is so rare, something that can
be counted on one hand in all the
time I have been tattooing.
The Cape Town Tattoo Social
Club is your latest venture. You’ve
owned other shops but this one
seems to be “the dream”. What is
the idea behind it?
We wanted to create the kind
of place where people can feel at
home. I wanted an appointment only
based shop so we could do away
with the unnecessary reception
areas and lose the need for a shop
front so that the distractions are
kept to a minimum. The concept
began in my lounge. I have been
working there for a year as I have
been doing a lot of travelling. We
were sitting chatting about how
many clients responded so well to
the environment, so we decided that
we would create a studio that was
like my lounge, where my clients felt
like they were visiting a friend and
not a studio. We want our clients to
feel like they can come visit without

having to be tattooed, to feel like it's
a place they belong.
Is there anyone in particular you
would love to be tattooed by?
Right now I'm waiting for Olo
Vog to visit and get something from
him. We have a wonderful young
woman coming in February 2014
called Alisa King, and I also would
love a piece from her. Lastly, Miss
Arianna would be cool to get a
piece from, she apprenticed under
my great friend Tom Buglioni from
Tom Tattoo in Ancona, Italy.
Have you ever made a mistake and
not said anything?
Never, and I'm sticking to that!
Lastly, some words of wisdom for
people wanting to get tattooed?
One word... "RESEARCH"!
Research everything, the style,
the history, the piece, who tattoos
you, who taught them. It’s the
single most important thing to
do. It ensures you make the most
informed decision.?
