Room

eing a freelancer can
be difficult. On the
one hand you have the
ability to dictate your own
flexible working hours, but
on the other hand there is
the pressure of constantly
having to drum up work in
order to make ends meet. It’s
rewarding, but it’s also a great
deal of work, and one of the
things that many people don’t
consider is an office space.
a communal workspace in
Parkhurst, Johannesburg – a
place from which freelancers
can have a home base to work
and run their businesses.
While working from home
has its advantages (you can
stay in your pyjamas all day
if you want), if you’re going
into a meeting, networking
with others, or even just want
a quiet space to work where
you won’t become easily
distracted, an office space can
be useful.
It’s not all work however,
to tone it down a little, there
is a monthly get together with
craft beer, snacks and music.
This is where The Common
Room comes in. We employ
the services of a number of
freelancers, and so it seemed
like a good idea to get the
opinion of one that frequents
this communal office space
regularly.
Brr has been frequenting
The Common Room since
they opened in August and has
been following their progress
closely. The Common Room,
if you haven’t heard yet, is

him was the ability to meet
up with other freelancers in a
professional environment.
