This brother and sister team
are not just talented cooks, but
they both have professional
degrees. Lidija is a former lawyer
and lecturer, with an LLM in
International Law. She hasn’t
entirely abandoned this career
either, keeping her hand in on
a part time basis. Bojan is an
innovation engineer. What’s that I
hear you ask? (Don’t worry we had
to ask as well!) The short answer
is that he helps clients identify
opportunities for innovation,
research the target market, then
come up with ideas that later
materialise as products, services
or experiences.
ISSUE 01
What makes these burgers so fantastic? Why the
traditional Serbian recipe of course! Balkan Burgers are
unlike those you will find anywhere else, making use
of a tried and tested time-honoured recipe that brings
customers back again and again.
After launching the Burger Bar in 2011, the next
step has been the recent launch of the travelling Balkan
Burger Bus, a mobile food truck that drives around
Johannesburg to a variety of venues and functions
providing burgers on the go.
Launching this new phase of the business has in itself
been somewhat of an adventure. It took six months to
even find the right bus, and just when they had given up
hope of finding what they had in mind, they spotted an
ad for it and called the seller immediately, travelling all
the way to Upington to collect it.
Then began the renovations, customising the bus as
a food truck, which in itself was a massive undertaking,
but in September of 2013, after a long and at times
difficult journey, the Balkan Burger Bus took to the
streets of Jozi, providing patrons with some of the
tastiest traditional Serbian burgers you’ll find anywhere.
