SPLICED LIFE / exhibition / feral / An interview with Peachfish & Muzi ISSUE 01 PEACHFISH What did you set out to achieve? Primarily, it was an investigative foray into a direction I'm wanting to go. A gentle, babysteps, practical introduction to making my own work. It was gratifying and deeply validating to have such a positive response. “To make manifest the things that invisibly fascinate me.” I noticed a number of interesting choices of medium? Sometimes I get a huge kic k out of making a work without spending anything, by re-purposing and experimenting. The two Pan themed works were made on dirty sheets of tetrapak I found outside Wolves. They were very resistant to taking my marks, and the images were eventually coerced out with a haphazard combination of steelwool, cooking oil, sandpaper, oil pastel, ink and synthetic concrete colourant amongst others. Where to next? I’d like to get into street art, those huge canvases call to me! Peachfish? I was trying to set up an email account for myself and didn't know what my user name should be. My mom shouted from her consult room that I should make it Lauren starfish or something. Laurenstarfish was unavailable, and the next thing that came to mind, from the beautiful mind of Tom Robbins was Peachfish. Which means vagina. And it stuck. 25
