A feral animal (from Latin fera,
"a wild beast") is an animal
living in the wild but descended
from domesticated individuals.

Feral was the debut exhibition of two very
talented artists 1 Lauren Schlachter
(Peachfish) and 2 Isaac Kosmides
(Muzi), curated by 3 Brett Rogers
(THEBRR). Although complimentary, the
contrast between the two styles was immediately
apparent. Isaac tends to draw in pen on paper, in
a very neat and ordered fashion with occasional
splashes of colour, but with powerful messages
running through the works. There is a sense that he
carefully considers every pen stroke before putting
it to paper. Lauren’s work is a great deal more
primal, like an explosion of ideas onto whatever
surface she has within reach. On display was
everything from small intimate pieces on A4 paper,
to massive bold images on disposed of packaging
with concrete dye used in the place of paint, bold
graphic art alongside non-conventional materials
in a mix of disparate media. For a debut exhibition
of two relatively unknown artists, Feral garnered
a lot of attention, and deservingly was almost a
complete sell-out.
As the title suggests, many of the works on
display represent the animal in man theme that
both the curator and the artists love to explore. A
number of the pieces speak of the hidden nature of
people, and I found a couple to be rather frightening
– representations of how little you might know the
true nature of the person next to you in bed.
Overall I think the exhibition was a great success,
and for someone so new to the art world to pull it off
with such style, makes us excited for the next one!
