SPLICED TECH / ISSUE 01 REVIEW / Acer Iconia A1 Tech Specs • Quad Core 1.2Ghz processor • 16GB or 32GB memory • 1GB RAM • 1,0924 x 768 display resolution • Runs Android Jelly Bean (4.2.2) • Expandable memory (MicroSD card slot) • 4:3 screen ratio • 7.9 inch screen • Front and rear facing cameras • Micro HDMI output • Bluetooth & Wi-Fi connectivity PERSONALISATION The Iconia also features a range of programmable gesture commands. Specific gestures allow users to wake the tablet up from standby and launch directly into a chosen app (e.g web browser or camera). Practical, different and a fair amount of fun too! Another cool feature is the ability to set up multiple profiles that are all completely separate to each other. Keep your work and play profiles separate, or have multiple users on one tablet without compromising your personalized setup. in the sun. The glare factor rivals that of a teacher hosting Saturday morning detention. Considering the price however, we’re willing to let this one slide. The front facing camera is present, but it’s a 0.3 megapixel camera, so don’t expect any prize winning selfies to be taken here. The rear facing camera is a decent 5 megapixels and works pretty well in well lit environments (such as outdoors etc), and it does record video footage in HD which is a plus. The speaker (unfortunately) leaves something to be desired, but a pair of headphones solves the problem.? 8 Verdict Overall, I give this little tablet kudos. It offers an enjoyable, straightforward user experience, does all the basics (and then some), and does them well. It looks pretty sexy, and it does a great job adhering to the notion of “what you see is what you get”. For the price, you’d be hard pressed to find a better deal. 15
