CARING FOR CANCER

by Dawn Schaupert

It seems these days that cancer has touched just about everyone's life.

My husband had cancer twice - the first time in 2002. He was in remission until it came back aggressively in October 2016.

By January 2017 he had passed away. Both times I was his caregiver, and now I help others

get through this trying time. Here are some tips to get you through if you are caring for someone with cancer.

1

Get a Calendar and some highlighters. You're going to need to write down a ton of doctor's appointments and reminders! You'll want to keep them all in one place and off the regular calendar.

2

Post the situation on Facebook or other Social Media. You're going to need support, and lots of it! You'll be amazed at how many people will share their own stories and ask how they can help.

3

Let people help you! Whether they're bringing over food, helping to clean the house, or just sitting with the other person, you need some down time. Take a shower, watch a movie, take a break.

4

Get a Notebook just to write down medications. Keeping up with medications is a full-time job. Plus, if you're waking up in the middle of the night you'll want to be sure to keep track!

Caring for someone with cancer is a tough job, but you don't have to go it alone! Come over to my free community and get the support you need from people who have been there - just like you.
