Have you ever stayed in a job because it was safer than trying to move?

Have you ever stayed in a relationship because you didn’t want to be alone?

Have you ever skipped the business risk for fear of rejection?

Have you ever done something because you are supposed to?

If the answers are yes to these and you feel a sense of impending doom as the yes answers stack on top of the other, it is time to swim for different waters.

It is time to reject conventional wisdom and make up your own rules. Embrace your rebel spirit and start forging your own path.

In a club in a recovery room in North Carolina, there was a mirror emblazoned with “You are Looking at the Problem."

Every time someone would go up to refill or get a fresh cup of coffee they’d see themselves reflected in those words. I wanted them to add, “you are also looking at the solution”." But that wasn’t the conventional wisdom of the group.

So, I left the group.

Conventional wisdom does not directly translate to actual wisdom. Just because it is generally agreed on doesn’t mean it’s time for you to suck it up buttercup. It might mean it’s time for you to challenge the system, rebel and make your own damn wisdom.

Consider which pieces of conventional wisdom are operating in your world.

Things like:

- Relationship Expectations

- Career Norms

- Business Rules

- When you are supposed to do anything or nothing

- How to exercise or dress

Are you drowning in a sea of sameness?

Screw that.

Floundering in that sea of sameness is crushing your soul. Don’t believe me? Let’s play have you ever:

Have you ever worn the same or similar outfit to work as someone?
