125 people in our organization believe in him. We know he believes in our total
concept of ‘team first.’ He has worked
hard to perfect his craft. Shane takes
notes like he is a freshman in meetings
although he has been with us for five
years. We think a great team builds
great players and he fits our motto.
LD: Who are some players who are
under the radar that we need to keep
an eye on?
RM: You have to wait until games are
played to tell. It is too early to know.
We have some guys that when the
lights turn on, they have been around
our program, they have made the
sacrifice and have worked really hard
on making sure their tools stay sharp
in their tool box. They practice that
way and stay focused that way and
encourage and push their teammates

and themselves pass that point. One of
my players told me that we are selfishly
unselfish. I didn’t get it at first but now
I do; they are so selfish about being
unselfish to the man next to them. We
can talk after a few games and I should
be able to tell you some names.
And after a few games, the names are
no surprise. Quarterback Shane Carden,
running back Breon Allen receivers Justin
Hardy, Trevon Brown and Isaiah Jones. Following a convincing 70-41 victory over
then No. 25 North Carolina on Sept. 20 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, East Carolina
finds itself nationally-ranked for the first time since 2008 after being tabbed No.
23 by the Associated Press and No. 24 by the USA Today/Amway Coaches Poll.
