Kimberly M. Knight (KMK): I believe my humility to serve in the HIV/AIDS community, the purpose driven character to research in my field, and most of all the faith to trust God for He is the divine source to be praised for it all is what makes me a successful leader in this area. Also, I was willing to step out on that faith not knowing what was to come but I knew with Him along the way all would be indeed well. This became more than the loss of my husband it became something larger than I could have ever imagined. SM: Can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader? Maybe someone who has been a mentor to you? Why and how did this person impact your life? KMK: Yes, I would like to acknowledge my parents Rudolph & Willisteen Knight because they raised me to be a bold, educated, service-minded, and God loving person that seeks to lead but most importantly is humble enough to follow. SM: What problem or condition in your respective field do you want to solve or improve? KMK: The fight continuously for the cure of HIV/AIDS is a major priority but before that can take place I want to encourage individuals to have conversations about their sexual health practices. The idea is by having more open dialogue the chances of infection decrease and more focus can be on the research for a cure. SM: What legacy will you like to leave behind? KMK: Ideally, I would like to leave behind a legacy of great faith, wisdom, and dedication to being a Servant to God as well as Mankind. Life is but a precious gift and opportunity to do God’s will. I just want to be sure I leave a legacy that showcases I lived my life on purpose. 22 SPECTACULAR MAGAZINE | November 2014 | www.spectacularmag.com
