FEATURES REVEREND RODNEY GREEN CELEBRATES 14th ANNIVERSARY OF CHANGING A GENERATION OUTREACH MINISTRIES DURHAM, NC – Celebrating years of helping the homeless and the poor, Northeast Baptist Church (3204 NC Highway 55) is the site of the Rev. Rodney Green’s 14th Anniversary Commemorative Services on Sunday August 17 at 4:00 pm. The Rev. John C. Fitzpatrick, Jr., Founder and Pastor of One Love Ministries, will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Wesley L. Elam, Pastor of Northeast Baptist Church, is the Host Pastor. Rev. Green is greatly involved in the Durham community and maintains membership in various organizations that support the community. Such organizations include Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Durham and Vicinity; Durham Ministers In Prayer; Durham Committee on HIV/ AIDS; American Heart Association’s Power to End Stroke Task Force; and honorary member of the Durham County Sheriff Department. Educated at the Union Christian Bible College, Rev. Green received his Bachelor of Theology degree in 2004 and completed his Master of Theology in 2009. Rev. Green strongly believes in the words of 2 Timothy 2:15 - “Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” In addition to ministering to prison inmates, Rev. Green is licensed by the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services for vocational rehabilitation services for released prison inmates. He is a licensed educator by the State of North Carolina to provide Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)/HIV counseling. Moreover, he has successfully completed the “Mentoring the 100 Way Curriculum” and was certified as a Mentor in 2006 by Joshua W. Murtree, PhD, who is the National Mentoring Chairman for the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. organization. Free haircuts are provided during events and at selected schools by independent barbers. As Rev. Green states, having a haircut is important because it provides a person’s self-esteem when looking for a job. Rev. Green was presented the Martin Luther King (MLK), Jr. National Holiday Keeper of The Dream Award in 2004 for outstanding community service as awarded by the Durham Steering Committee of the MLK organization. In 2005, he received a certificate of recognition from the American Red Cross for his participation in helping displaced persons after Hurricane Katrina. In 2006, Changing a Generation Outreach Ministries was invited to participate on The Word Network, an urban African-American gospel television network (www.thewordnetwork.org). In 2012 Rev. Green expanded his ministry to Roxboro, NC. Today, in addition to Durham and Roxboro, he has full-time ministries in Henderson, Oxford, Bahama, Rougemont, and Timberlake in North Carolina and in the Virginia towns of Lynchburg and South Boston. Rev. Green receives help and support with meals preparations and distribution by volunteers from local churches. He persists on his mission with an optimistic attitude and strong conviction in his mission to help the needy of Durham. He is performing a great service to Durham and his continued leadership is important to the community. His example of selfless service is a standard to be held high for all to seek. In 2000, Rev. Green began his life’s work by founding “Changing a Generation Outreach Ministries”, a non-profit religious organization. An ordained minister of the gospel, motivational speaker, author, spiritual poet, Rev. Green started as ‘The Parking Lot Pastor. During 2003, he established a storefront ministry on East Main Street in the heart of Durham, NC where he expanded his outreach ministry by providing three free meals a day to the poor. In 2004, he moved to a house on Holloway Street. Rev. Green now provides many services to Durham’s needy, including food distribution at the Mission House, to nursing homes, to churches and to other organizations that prepare meals for the needy. In this capacity, he works closely with the North Carolina Food Bank and the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Hot meals are provided to the poor on special occasions such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.
