nly nine of the 500 Red Bull Hare Scramble
riders reached the finish line within the
time limit during the last weekend in May, with
Britain’s Graham Jarvis winning the Austrian
Hard Enduro event for the third time.
On May 26-29, Erzberg’s iron mine is home
to the Erzbergrodeo, a festival of extreme
motorsports and two-wheeler action on the
Iron Mountain, with the 500 fastest racers out
of the 1,500 entrants tackling the Red Bull Hare
Scramble.
With sections named Machine, Badewanne,
Carl’s Dinner, Downtown and Dynamite, the
new course proved extremely demanding even
for the most experienced riders due to steep
ascents, huge debris fields, and slippery forest
passages.
The first gravel ascent took a first toll,
with several riders from the first starting row
rolling down the hill backwards again. Fivetime Erzberg winner and hot favourite Taddy
Blazusiak (POL) took the lead but was soon
passed by Cody Webb (USA), leading the top
flight with Blazusiak, Alfredo Gomez (SPA) and
Wade Young (RSA) to the first check point.
