A few Christmas dos and don’ts…
Christmas lights and decorations are a fire hazard, especially if
they haven’t been touched or tested for a year. Check the fuses on
your fairy lights, never leave them on overnight and don’t overload
electrical sockets. Fire retardant and resistant decorations are
available to buy.
Christmas trees should be positioned away from hot lights,
heat sources and electrical sockets. Make sure an extinguisher is
located nearby.
Packaging. With an increase in deliveries and gifts during the
festive period, make sure paper, wrapping and cardboard is recycled
quickly and does not block fire exits.
Candles might be perfect for creating that warm Christmas glow,
but they are also a major fire hazard. Keep them away from trees
and other flammable items, or better still use artificial candles.
