Manitowish Waters Fire Company
takes delivery of new rescue pumper

The Manitowish Waters Fire Company took delivery of a brand-new 2013
rescue pumper, which was put into service this year on the Fourth of July.
Taking over as the most modern engine in the fleet, the truck cost the company $473,000. It was built by US
Tanker of Delavan and features a Spartan Chassis cab, along with a pump that
moves water at 1,500 gallons per
minute (gpm).
“It’s a really nice truck, and it’s designed just the way we want it,” said
Fire Chief Skip Skrobot. “It’s got a lot of
equipment on board, and it’s all on the
curb-side. Normally it’s all on the roadside of the truck, and the guys are out
there trying to deal with accidents. We
already used the truck in one accident
and it worked out a lot better.”
Much of that equipment also is brand
new. An anonymous donor in the town
saw that the fire company needed new
extrication tools, so the donor elected to
fund the purchase of tools like spreaders
and cutters.
The rescue pumper also features a
large light tower on its roof that raises
electronically to help the department
with nighttime emergencies, according
to Skrobot.
“The truck should last us 25 or 30
years,” he said. “It’s replacing an out-ofdate 1994 truck which we’re trying to
sell.”
Manitowish Waters Fire Company
has rolled with green trucks since 1973,
and will continue the green theme with
large Scotchbrite reflective decals on the
sides of the new rescue engine. The
manufacturer made arrangements with
R.J. Markx Custom Graphics of Appleton to get the flame decals in place.
The fire company will use money
from its annual fundraisers, along with
money received from the town each year
in a sinking fund to finance the purchase.
“The rescue pumper is a great addition to our company’s growing arsenal of
fire trucks and equipment,” said
Skrobot.
