Sparta, WI – The Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to welcome the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train to Sparta for its annual stop during the U.S. 2018 tour. The Holiday Train will arrive in Sparta on Saturday, December 8, at approximately 6:40 PM, and will stop at the intersection of South Water Street and Milwaukee Street, near the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce Depot. The CP Holiday show will begin at 7:00 PM. A larger than usual crowd is expected as this is a weekend night. The Sparta Police Department, as well as other public safety agencies, are working with the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Pacific Railroad to ensure a safe event for all participants. Those planning to attend should note the following precautions. Streets in the area of the intersection of South Water Street and Milwaukee Street will be restricted beginning about 5:00 PM and will be totally closed to traffic beginning at 5:30 PM. Barricades will be erected on South Water Street, north of the railroad crossing (Foss Street) and south of the railroad crossing (Hemstock Drive), as well as on Milwaukee Street, east of the Chamber Depot. Only cars with handicapped parking permits will be allowed access to the parking lot east of the Chamber Depot and must approach from the east via Milwaukee Street. The Chamber Depot parking lot on corner of Milwaukee and South Water Street will be reserved for food donation collection vehicles, Santa Claus station , Cell Plus hot chocolate station, and porta-potties. The Holiday Train will open its stage to viewers on both the north and south sides of the train and tracks. Visitors to the Holiday Train event are cautioned to stay away from the tracks at all times. Prior to the arrival of the CP Holiday Train, the Amtrak train will pass through site.
