So salty! DID YOU KN OW? We eat 250 million portions of FISH AND CH IPS every year ! The Caribbean Sea The Dead Sea Yikes! If it is a dead sea, then everything in it died? No, the Dead Sea just doesn’t have any fish in it because it’s far too salty. And what’s more, it is actually a lake, not a sea. There are lots of minerals in the Dead Sea which are also in our bodies, such as calcium. So it’s thought that the sea is great for curing illnesses. It’s a mega salty sea but people who have tasted it find it doesn’t taste like salt at all. The enormous amounts of salt are there because it is hot and dry, so lots of the water dries up leaving the salt behind. The land around the Dead Sea is the lowest land on Earth, being 430 metres below normal sea level. Because of the salt content, the Dead Sea weighs more than freshwater and people actually float in it! This is a beautiful-looking sea that you see in holiday pictures. But it’s also a very deep sea with secret underwater volcanoes! Far beneath the surface, there are special volcanic tubes nicknamed “black smokers”. Extremely hot water comes out of the tubes, but even so some sea creatures like to live there. Scientists think that these unusual creatures might even be similar to alien life on other planets. There is even a shrimp with no eyes that sees using a light sensor on its back! SEE THE DEEP SE A LIFE youtu.be/ip3_Io vjxCk LEARN ABOUT FI SH WHILE PLAYIN G fi shandkids.msc .org/en/play SPARK 11
