iMATTER 1906 Zing! Along came the perm, a style which created curly hair using special rods. Electricity was used to heat the rods and a mix of cow urine (yuk!) and water was used to set the perm. Early 1900s Albert Einstein’s frizzy long hair inspired the “mad scientist” or “genius” look. 1920s 1950s/1960 Buzz, it’s the beehive! It was ta shape resembled a cone-shap Bobs! Girls would crop their hair between chin and ear level to make the bob and style it with waves. Boys had the crew cut, an aerodynamic style which was first tried out by an American rowing team (crew). It was popular because it was easy to keep tidy with less hair at the sides and more on top. 1960s No hair at all! The skinhead style was a tough look. Contrast this with the Afro, a hairstyle worn by African Americans and people with curly hair. 6 SPARK
