“CHEAT!” screamed Lug angrily. A hush fell over the crowd. Lug stormed up to Elder Big, who had been watching with interest. “ He’s a cheat! He had help! It’s not fair!” “ He didn’t break any rules,” said Elder Big mildly, “ Dug wins.” A cheer erupted from the dinosaurs. Og danced in the distance with joy. As Lug stomped from the canyon, Dug saw Elder Big wink at him. He had done it. Dug loved the hunt. On the flat plains his wheeyuls made him faster than any other dinosaur. When he returned, hot and happy, he gave Og most of his food, to thank him. Og accepted it thankfully. He had a very healthy appetite. Lug didn’t join them, or in any hunt ever again. He sulked in his cave and never came out. Several moons later, Og appeared at Dug’s door again, looking as secretive as he did on the day he presented the whee-yul—chair. laid out on the floor, were a pair of enormous wings! Dug was speechless. “Now you can fly,” said Og, proudly. “They’ll work too. I’ve figured it all out.” Dug swept up Og in his massive arms into a huge hug. “You’re the best friend ever,” he said. Og laughed and hugged back, just as hard. And so, in the sunset, Dug strapped on his wings and flapped them as he saw the birds do. Slowly he rose of the ground and into the air. Og watched from the floor grinning and waving as Dug swooped around the canyon, completely free of his heavy legs. And that’s just the beginning of Dug, the rolling, flying dinosaur, who had no need for legs or feet. He was finally happy with who he was, because he wasn’t just different - he was special. “I have something for you,” he grinned. “I think you’ll like it.” “ What have you made?” asked Dug. “Come and see.” Dug rolled from his cave, curiously.
