By the time June came round we decided to enrol her in the Charity Dog Show and she did brilliantly, getting placed in three events, although she did have a small tiff with her friend Issy, who beat her to first in the “prettiest Bitch”.

Gary also started work on my other dog Fidel who is neurotic tries to attack all other dogs. Not because he is aggressive but because he is scared. Gary describes it as “fight or Flight”. I took him to Gary’s “Fighter and Biters” lesson and was rendered speechless when after an initial scrap with Ella the German Shepherd also attending, he was un-muzzled, off lead, trotting along and playing with her and rubbing round her. By the second lesson he had met Rio another German Shepherd, and now runs off the lead with him with no muzzle too.

A few weeks ago we decided to try Fidel at the normal weekly lessons and again after his initial aggression he has a new friend Uno the black Labrador, who he can walk and play with and this week I took him and Foxy to the Sunday lesson to introduce him to Foxy’s friends. He showed his usual aggression until Gary worked his magic again and was soon out of his muzzle on a thirty foot training lead, just in case, but to able to feel part of the pack and run with the others. Fidel has also shown to be a natural on the agility course and will walk on a slack lead and responds to commands already.

Next is Gucci, my deaf, dumb, blind and very independent Shar Pei! She is Fidel’s mother and Foxy’s Grandmother so I am hoping that soon I will have all three generations on the lead, walking beautifully and making friends in the campo. Whether she and Fidel will join Foxy on Sunday mornings, spinning and leaping in the air with excitement when I say “Puppy training time!” remains to be seen.

I cannot recommend Gary Joynson highly enough! He is an absolute genius and I have not seen one dog come to training that has not responded to his methods within the first half or their first lesson.

You can find him on facebook or via his website and I hope to see anyone who reads this come and join us at one of the lessons.
