It is important to understand the difference between Botox and Dysport, which are muscle relaxers, and Juvederm, Radiesse, Perlane, Restylane, Sculptra, Collagen, etc. which are dermal fillers.

The major difference between Botox/Dysport and fillers is that Botox/Dysport focus on immobilizing or relaxing the facial muscles to relieve wrinkles, whereas injectable dermal fillers focus on tissue filling to treat the age lines or volume loss.

Botox and Dysport work by temporarily blocking the signals from the nerves to the muscles, thereby reducing muscle movement and causing wrinkles to relax and soften. These are used by experienced injectors to lift areas of the face, eg. brow lifts.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, fill depleted facial features, and in many instances stimulate collagen growth. Although each dermal filler has unique attributes, in general, most dermal fillers work in two ways. First, by plumping and lifting the skin gently to replace collagen loss caused by the natural aging process. Secondly, most fillers stimulate the body to produce its own natural collagen.
