Revved up growth in the salon industry, with steady future gains expected, signals an exciting time for salon professionals. Trends show customers are spending more on facials, manicures, pedicures, hair treatments and massages. This explosive movement is an industry game-changer with new businesses joining the marketplace. Enter Salons by JC, which opened its doors in Canada in January. This non-traditional salon – the first of its kind in the country – offers fully customizable, private suites for rent, exclusively designed for beauty and wellness professionals.

The salon, in a high-end retail area near Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke, Ontario, is an expansive 10,000 sq./ft. facility, with 51 luxury suites. The space boasts beautiful common areas and state-of-the-art amenities. Salons by JC President Ernesto Pozzobon brought this turnkey concept to Canada. Pozzobon, who has held senior executive positions throughout North America, was looking for “the next big thing” when the chance came up. “It’s a new way of doing business in the Canadian salon industry,” he says, “and an opportunity for industry professionals to enjoy more income, flexibility and freedom.” He describes salon suite rental as a perfect way for specialists like hair stylists, nail technicians, aestheticians, permanent cosmetics technicians and massage therapists to start or expand their business, and for current owners to take their career to another level.

Features of Salons by JC’s unique brand are savvy marketing tools and complimentary 24-hour concierge service, which provide the backdrop for career success. The new salon is full-service, with customer access to a variety of specialized services under one roof, for a true one-stop shopping experience. Given the minimal start-up costs, low overhead and lease incentives, Pozzobon explains the arrangement is “a low-risk way to do business at a fraction of the cost of a traditional salon model, with significant income potential. Our tenants have freedom to set schedules and pricing, offer products and services and design and decorate their space.”

“My customers love it,” says Catherine, an aesthetician who operates a suite at the new location. “It’s a unique concept that allows technicians to have their own business and be self-employed without having to worry about added stresses like employees and other issues associated with running a store. It’s very simple.”

Although new in Canada, thousands of these types of multi-tenant salon suites exist in the U.S. Salons by JC has over 75 locations and commitments to open another 200 salon suites over the next several years.
