The Southlake Fire Department achieved the 2016 Mission : Lifeline EMS Gold Level Recognition Award presented by the American Heart Association . This is the highest level of recognition and praise related to pre-hospital cardiovascular care available to EMS providers nationwide . This recognition correlates with our cardiac arrest survival rate which was 38 % for fiscal year 2016 . The national average for witnessed cardiac arrest survival in the United States is approximately 11 %.

Innovating to Save Lives

In FY16 , Southlake Fire added the LUCAS 2 , providing the patients we treat with an innovative way to perform lifesaving chest compressions during incidents involving cardiac arrest . 70 % of cardiac arrest patients treated in Southlake had a return of cardiac function upon arrival at the hospital indicating that the LUCAS 2 device is an effective and reliable lifesaving tool .
