On Saturday , September 7 , the Marlborough Police received a 911 call at 11:43 am on an accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle in Milton .
Police Chief Gerald Cocozza said Robert Prince , 57 , of Clintondale was driving his 2012 Harley Davidson Motorcycle west on Milton Turnpike towards Plattekill when he collided with a 2012 Kia Sorento driven by Katherine Finigan , 38 , of Highland after she pulled out of Milton Cross Rd . A Riley Finigan , 14 , was listed also as a passenger in the Sorento .
“ Its a bad intersection . Its a blind hill with a slight curve ,” Cocozza said . “ We have accidents there all the time with people pulling out in front of people because they don ’ t see them coming . Its a very short sight distance .”
Cocozza believes Finigan is at fault “ by the letter of the law but I really can understand how it can happen .” He said Prince had the Right of Way in this situation .
Cocozza said Prince “ T-boned ” Finigan “ right behind the driver ’ s door and in the rear axle of her car . He flips off his bike , smashes into the side of the car and goes rolling across the ground .” The Chief said Finigan was moving very slowly coming onto Milton Turnpike and Prince was “ probably traveling at least 40 mph , which is the speed limit .”
Mobile Life Support Services showed up and were concerned about a possible head injury , even though Prince was wearing his helmet . An emergency helicopter was ordered , landing safely at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome , that brought Prince to the Mid Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie . The Finigans were looked at by Mobile Life and were unhurt and refused transportation to the hospital .
“ He ended up with broken ankles , broken ribs , maybe a broken or dislocated shoulder or clavicle bone but no head injury ,” Cocozza said . “ They let him out of the hospital that evening .”
Also on the scene were the Milton Fire Department , the NYS Troopers , Erichsen Towing ( requested by Finigan ) and Absolutely Automotive ( requested by Prince ).
