Walkway offers training workshop

The Walkway Over the Hudson nonprofit organization will offer two initial training workshops next week for people interested in becoming members of the Walkway ’ s Volunteer Ambassador corps .
Training workshops for future Ambassadors will be offered from 9 a . m . to 12:30 p . m . on Saturday , March 10 at New York State Park ’ s offices at 5 Parker Avenue in Poughkeepsie . Participants can choose to attend either session but must pre-register for training by contacting Walkway Director of Programs and Visitor Experience Theresa Sanchez at 454-9649 or email tsanchez @ walkway . org .
Walkway Ambassadors are specially-trained volunteers who enhance the visitor ’ s experience in numerous ways and allow for a diversity of programming that would be otherwise unavailable at the Walkway Over the Hudson Historic State Park . Volunteering at the Walkway is a way to meet interesting people while supporting the Walkway mission , which is to enhance the Walkway experience , support capital improvements , and deliver innovative programs that attract visitors and contribute to the economic vitality of the Hudson Valley .

Walsh has convened a faculty safety forum to solicit their input on safety issues to determine what measures need improvement and what is working well . The school also has a Positive Behavior Intervention System in place , “ and our Responsive Classroom Social Curriculum that teaches children at a very young age skills that they may not always come to us with , and building them up .”
Rosanne Mele , Director of Social Services , said each school has a large support staff to handle health and wellness issues and crisis situations . The High School has three Guidance Counselors , a student assistance counselor , a psychologist , an SRO and a Nurse who are there on a daily basis . The Middle School has two Guidance Counselors , a Social Worker , a Psychologist , a shared SRO and a Nurse . At the Elementary level there are two Social Workers , a Psychologist , an SRO and two Nurses . She noted that many of these individuals are trained in the Crisis Incident Stress Management [ CISM ] program that was secured through Orange / Ulster BOCES as part of a countywide crisis team aimed at supporting school districts should there be an incident .
Mele said they have recently held Mental Health Round Table discussions in each school to gather information and to evaluate what professional help may be needed to assist students and staff .
“ From those round tables we ’ ll be moving on to creating professional development activities , programs and concepts for each building and for the district as a whole to support health and wellness for both students , teachers and faculty ,” she said .
Brooks said these highlighted efforts gives a picture “ of our current status .” He said there may be additional options for the district and the school board to consider to proactively protect students and teachers . He said he cannot reveal the deeper details of the district ’ s plans but said it is important for the public to know that the school district takes student and school safety and security very seriously .

TOWN OF LLOYD Kevin P . Burke , 63 , of Highland , was arrested March 1 and charged with Driving While Intoxicated after the vehicle he was operating was stopped for traffic violations on Rte . 44 / 55 in Highland . He was released on tickets and is due in Town Court March 29 .
Trisha M . Sucato , 48 , of Highland , was arrested March 4 and charged with Petit Larceny . She is accused of stealing approximately $ 167 in merchandise from the Rite Aid store in Highland . She was released on an appearance ticket and is due in Town Court March 15 .

Pribeck , 36 , of Highland , was arrested March 2 and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd degree after the vehicle he was operating was involved in a personal injury auto accident on Perkinsville Rd in Highland . He was released on tickets and is due in Town Court March 15 .
Michelle L . Noone , 48 , of Poughkeepsie , was arrested March 2 and charged with Driving While Intoxicated after the vehicle she was operating was stopped for traffic violations on Rte . 44 / 55 in Highland . Noone was released on tickets and is due in Town Court March 29 .
Christopher A . White , 35 , of Poughkeepsie , was arrested March 2 on a bench warrant for Petit Larceny . He was arraigned before Town of Lloyd Judge Elia and released and is due back in Town Court March 8 .

On March 2 , State Police Highland arrested Emily Guerrette , 31 , of Milton , N for DWI . She was traveling on State Route 9W in the town of Marbletown when she was stopped for a vehicle and traffic law violation . Investigator said she was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested .
On February 24 , State Police at Highland charged the following subjects following a traffic stop on State Route 9W in the town of Lloyd . psilocybin mushrooms , a hallucinogenic substance as well as cocaine and marijuana were located during the investigation .
Jared D Miller age 21 of Bellmore , NY charged Criminal possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree ( Class B Felony ) and Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 4th degree ( Class A Misdemeanor ).

On February 26 , State Police at Highland charged Eric P Nichol , 37 , of Wallkill , with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree ( Class B Felony ), 3 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree ( Class A Misdemeanor ) and Operating a Motor Vehicle impaired by drugs . Nichol was found to possess a Hallucinogen and THC oil during a traffic stop on State Route 44 / 55 in the town of Lloyd . Nichol was arraigned before town of Lloyd Justice Elia and remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail .
