Last Friday Walkway Over the
Hudson proudly opened their newest
addition – a $5.4 million Welcome
Center on the Highland side of the state
park.
In a press release, Walkway stated,
“the new Ulster Welcome Center will
be the gateway for the thousands of
visitors arriving at the western end
of the Walkway and will serve as a
major focal point of the Empire State
Trail.” This trail is an ambitious plan by
Gov. Cuomo to create a 750 mile bicycle
and walking path by 2020 that will link
existing trails from New York City to
Canada and from Albany to Buffalo.
The 3,500 sq/ft Welcome Center has
a new plaza and amphitheater seating
for hundreds of people to gather for
special events and programs. A 1,400
sq/ft covered patio, new signage,
enhanced landscaping, a bus drop-off
location for easy access, an upgrade to
the pathways in and out of the park, a
concession stand and bathrooms with
running water. The release points out
that the Center utilizes the latest energy
efficiency technology that includes LED

Town of Newburgh Councilman Scott
Manley has decided to run as a candidate
for an open seat in New York’s 104th
Assembly District. Manley is so far the
only Republican
to
publicly
announce his
candidacy in the
race.
“I’m a level-
headed person
who can work
with everyone,”
said
Manley
when
asked
why he believes
Scott Manley
he is the best
candidate to fill
the position, vacant since the passing of
the late New York State Assemblyman
Frank Skartados.
Manley is currently serving his first
term on the Newburgh Town Council.
