Then comes Apparatus. Pilates’ equipment, such as the Reformer, Tower, Wunda Chair or Cadillac adds moderate resistance training to the exercises that are taught on the Mat. There are over 500 precise movements performed to lengthen, strengthen, and stretch muscles without adding bulk.

Props for Fun. To add variety and challenge to a Pilates’ workout, an instructor has the option of using a Magic Circle, hand weights, physio ball, thera bands or foam rollers to the exercises. Legend has it; Joseph Pilates modeled the Magic Circle after beer keg rings.

Pilates focuses on quality of movement and the individual so it is a system for every age and gender. Through efficient, mindful movement, Pilates’ results include improved core strength, stability, flexibility, stamina, posture, tone, and energy. In other words, Pilates is the perfect exercise.
