Experience the Tranquillity of River Nene Cottages Built in 1805, River Nene Cottages, based near the town of Peterborough offer a peaceful and tranquil setting for anyone looking for a break from the busy city life. Owners Philip and Steven purchased the property five years ago originally acquiring the main house. Eager to start a new business of self-catering cottages they pursued regaining ownership of the cottage building that once belonged to Mill House. They successfully purchased Barley and Yew Tree cottages, followed a year later with Coach Cottage, renovating them to the standard they are today. fairytale wedding. The church has a interesting history and was built in the 1100's before a fire destroyed the building. It was later rebuilt in the 1200's again and remains a historic part of the River Nene setting. This isn't the only history the location has however. The famous Water Newton Treasure was discovered nearby and is said to be the most valuable hoard of Roman silver found in the country. A collection consisting of 27 silver items and a small gold plaque, this valuable piece of history can still be viewed at the British Museum today. The picturesque surroundings offer much to do for guests coming to enjoy a short break. They also have arranged an upcoming riverside 'Gin & Jazz' event where there will be two live jazz bands as entertainment, whilst guests can enjoy a variety of gins and vodka at The Boardwalk bar. The event will be a fundraiser set in the gardens of Mill House to raise money for the Nene Valley Care Trust.
