Spring 2019 MUSIC FILM Eric Bell An Elephant Sitting Still The 50th Anniversary Tour Wednesday 24 April Saturday 20 April In the northern Chinese city of Manzhouli, they say there is an elephant that simply sits and ignores the world. Manzhouli becomes an obsession for the protagonists of this film, a longed-for escape from the downward spiral in which they find themselves. Among them is schoolboy Bu, on the run after pushing Shuai down the stairs, who was bullying him previously. Bu's classmate Ling has run away from her mother and fallen for the charms of her teacher. Shuai's older brother Cheng feels responsible for the suicide of a friend. And finally, along with many other characters whose fates are inextricably bound together, there's Mr. Wang, a sprightly pensioner whose son wants to offload him onto a home. In virtuoso visual compositions, the film tells the story of one single suspenseful day from dawn to dusk, when the train to Manzhouli is set to depart. In 1969 Eric Bell walked into a bar in Dublin, ordered a pint and settled down to watch a band play. Two of the members of that band were Brian Downey and Phil Lynott. He was knocked out by what he saw and heard and asked them to form a band with him. Both duly obliged and within weeks Thin Lizzy was born. Since those legendary years Eric has carved out a place as a solo artist and guitarist working with a who’s who of rock and blues acts. Since 2015 he has been touring with two more Rock and Roll veterans namely Dave Wintour and Romek Parol both of whom have worked with the likes of Roger Daltrey, Rik Wakeman, The Pirates, Chicken Shack and The Pretty Things Eric will work his way through a playlist of songs that takes him from early days and influences, through his "Lizzy" days, through his back catalogue and right up to the present day. The evening will be full of surprises as no two nights are ever the same ...
