SOTA300 excerpt I thought was best for the purpose and it was rewarding when she agreed with me and said that she trusted my opinion. Another important marketing task that I undertook was creating a marketing plan for each of the two books as a part of a team with the other students. I also took the initiative to source a list of prizes and festivals for Katherine Pulman, Books Marketing Manager at LUP, to help the promotion of the two poetry books. In addition to this I helped to create the Pavilion Poetry pages in the Liverpool University Press Spring/Summer 2016 Catalogue and my role in these pages lies in the marketing information that I had collected from the poets, that was then used to form this marketing material. In addition, I took the initiative to complete some of my own social media marketing for the books by tweeting and retweeting about them as a great number of my followers are also students of English at the university and people in the publishing industry, so it may have encouraged them to attend the launch or buy the books. The biggest highlight of the whole experience was being handed a physical copy of each of the two poetry books that I published, as it was an extremely proud moment for me and it was rewarding to see the product of my hard work. The toughest challenge was learning to be more confident in myself, but I believe that this placement has made a huge impact on my confidence, in a work environment and personally. I feel like I performed very well in the workplace, and received a great deal of praise from the people that I worked with and came into contact with. The books that I helped to publish are of the highest quality and something that I am definitely proud of. In terms of the different departments that I gained experience in, I really enjoyed the editorial aspects of my placement, not just copy-editing and proofreading, but also the project management side of editorial. I think that the whole experience went well and it has highlighted the 57 need for me to focus on improving my grammar if I am to be an editor. This placement has greatly affected my career plans. Prior to this work experience I had no intention of entering the publishing industry and did not know what it was that I wanted to do. My career plans and aspirations now are to enter the publishing industry; however, I think that the trade sector would be more suited to me than academic publishing as fiction is my passion. I am enthusiastic about publishing not only because I love books, but also because I have realised that I love the business side of producing and selling books and it is something that really excites me.
