In this essay BA Communication Studies second-year Madeleine O’Brien looks at part of Russell Brand’s 2009 New York City show. Transcript Then there was a bit I said right I said some things about er the Jonas brother right (girly screams) I was only mucking about I’ve not come all the way from England with the express intention can we bring down the Jonas brothers I ain’t got strong views on the Jonas brothers just like for me they’re like er cotton candy or butter just a thing in the world have [æv] them have as many as you want I don’t mind it doesn’t matter I was just mucking around right but I said some things about their promise rings and Jordin sparks Whose name I can never feel comfortable saying Jordin sparks she won a talent contest she came out right she come out and goes (American female accent) um yeah um I just like to say that er you shouldn’t mock promise rings because not everybody wants to be a slut thereby condemning everyone who has sex ever as sort of prostitutes ahh please can we have sex we really love each other (Lower voice) save it for Jesus (laughs) (4.0) But (bʌɁ) it was good in a way cuz it meant that a little bit of our script suddenly became useful because it seemed like a repost to Jordan’s remarks and here is that bit of the script right (clears throat) Hey im only joking about the Jonas brothers [brəvəz] sorry I don’t wanna piss off any teenage fans (.) quite the opposite By opposite I don’t mean I wanna piss on any teenage fans and I know you’ve had a bit of trouble with that a couple of years ago I believe butterfly R Kelly right I can how it happens though kid comes up to ya wanting an autograph you remember how funny it is to write you name in the snow Suddenly there’s a court case (higher pitched) (3.0) Cut from the final show.
