Sophomore Seminar Narratives Spring 2019 | Page 27

Unlike the beginning of the night, the end took a turn for the worst. On his way home he started to doze off and wasn’t focusing on the road. He felt his eyes start to close and his head pull back. He only woke up because of the blaring noise that came from behind him. That was when he realized he was in the other lane. Next came flashing lights in his mirror. He started to pull off to the side of the road. That was when Kevin knew he was in trouble. Two hours later he was at the station in custody. When he was in questioning he told the police officer everything that he needed to know; where they were and who was there that day. After Kevin gave his statement the officer left the station and went to the pond. There he saw how much had been misplaced and thrown around. After taking note of what was at the pond he went to talk to Sam and Ryan about that day. It turned out that no one lied to the officer about where they were, who got the beer, who was there, and how long they stayed. However, Kevin had thrown his friends under the bus.

In the end they had all suffered from that eventful day at the pond. Kevin had put other lives in danger, including his own. He drove while intoxicated and on top of that he littered on public land. Kevin had his license suspended for a year, served two hundred hours community service, and he paid a fine for littering and a fine to get his car towed. He had also lost Sam and Ryan as friends because they had to pay in their own way that night. They each ended up getting their own consequences that had not been said. The friends couldn’t go to the pond anymore without getting in trouble because they had been banned from there. What had been a fun day with friends turned into a day of regret. If they went to school that day they wouldn’t have had any problems.

The moral of this story is to help people realize the wrongs and rights in life. Kevin was lucky for not getting into an accident that night. Learn from others, don’t do what Kevin did. Follow the laws, as they are there for a reason, to prevent things from happening. Don’t drink and drive; it can kill. Whether it’s someone in the car that dies or even a friendship, it’s still killing something. The butterfly effect is known in theory as a butterfly flapping its wings and thousands of miles away it causes a storm. This says that the big problems happen from little things that could have been easily prevented or at least slowed. It could also be compared to a snowball rolling down a mountain. At the top it is small but when it is towards the bottom it is almost thirty times the size.
