Winter is the most important season for a great shoe collection. Winter is a time of bundling up in your coat and scarves and jeans. Let’s be honest, there’s not a lot of opportunity for versatility when you’re focused on fighting the tundra and keeping warm every chance that you get. A killer pair of shoes is going to be the opportunity to bring in some color, show your individuality, and make a statement. It’s easy to get caught in a shoe slump. Break away from your everyday black boot and try some of these suggestions.

1. Anything with fur brings some playfulness to your outfit. Especially now! Fur mules and fur slides are dominating the fur shoe trend this season.

2. Sneakers can be an exciting change this season as well. Brands like Balenciaga bring a sleek edge to your outfit. Shoes that have texture such as velvet, patchwork, fur, embroidery, or applique are a great way to add something different to your outfit.

3. Midi boots are one of my favorites this season. By far the easiest shoe style to dress up or down and a fun way to switch up the boot style, as booties were a hot style last season. Consider swapping out last year’s bootie for a midi boot this year.

4. Feeling a little adventurous? Try a cute sock with your favorite open toed summer shoe! It’s a great way to add some humor to your look and show off your favorite socks. Happy Socks make some colorful styles that are too cute not to put on display.

5. If you wear and love your tall boots, switch it up a little with a two-toned boot or a boot that’s an unusual neutral like a wine or stone color.

Most importantly, have fun! I have always believed that a shoe can tell your personality before you speak. Let your shoes do the talking this winter. Put your individuality and beauty on display… and stay warm!

Coco Chanel knew what she was talking about – especially when she said, “A woman with good shoes is never ugly.”
