significant legacy and their impact is still felt today. But what about women? While women may not be com- memorated for their powerful legacies in the same way men are, they are equally as important. A legacy is more than financial wealth to leave behind, your name in record books, or monuments in your honor. Legacy is the story of your life that lives on after you leave this earth. Shaping a legacy means outliving your life by intentionally investing in the impact you will leave beyond your time on this earth. Every person has a part in crafting the legacy they will leave behind – whether for good, or for bad. Throughout history, and today, women are shaping powerful legacies even though the world may not often recognize it in the same way. There is a difference in what the world considers valuable, and what God considers valuable. The world’s economy says power, 68 • Solutions recognition, fame and accomplishment are major indicators of someone that has created a significant legacy. Yet in Scripture, we see over and over again God remind us that the “meek will inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5), and that the “last will be first and the first will be last” (Matthew 20:6). These counter-intuitive instructions can teach us a great deal about crafting our own legacy. Rather than pursuing the temporal things of this world, a lasting legacy will be made by investing in things that are eternal. God’s Word and human souls are the two things that are eternal. Investing in these may not gain us the world’s recognition, but it will gain something of much greater value – eternal impact. Women today are uniquely equipped to shape an eternal legacy. Women are often the ones initiating the gatherings, making time for relationships, pouring into others, and sharing stories. All of
