grace of God” (verse 24).
Paul was persecuted. He was beaten.
He was stoned. He was put in prison.
He was shipwrecked. He was judged.
He was pressed beyond measure.
You would think at some point he
would determine it was time to ring the
bell. But here’s the thing. Paul never
said, “I’ve been through too much. I
didn’t sign up for this. God’s given me
more than my fair share. I think I’ll just
check out; it’s time for me to give up.
It’s time to quit.”
to keep climbing. You have to keep
moving. You have to keep pressing
forward.

There was no quit in Paul.
Instead, he said, “I focus on this one
thing: Forgetting the past and looking
forward to what lies ahead, I press
on to reach the end of the race and
receive the heavenly prize for which
God, through Christ Jesus, is calling
us” (Philippians 3:13–14).
In other words, you cannot live in the
past. The call is upward. You have
