Liz told us that the idea was simple: since having two children she’d become more homesick for her native Scotland. Analysing what she really missed it was… friends, football and food! But since here in Nerja she has the great weather, family and friends, all that was really missing was the food and football. So, The Beer Poetry, wine & music Last month Nerja Book Centre hosted local author Abigail López Torres, launching her new book El Hada y La Luna. Award winning author, Abigail, recited a selection of her poems, beautifully accompanied by Alfonso Millan Quintana – a talented musician from Málaga. Alfonso serenaded the audience with a selection of songs, one of which was revealed to be the inspiration behind the book itself, El Hada y la Luna by Saurom. The atmosphere in the shop was enchanting with soft lighting and handmade decorations amidst it´s maze of books and full of guests enjoying a glass of wine. This is the first event of this type to be organised and hosted by the Nerja pat community for nearly 20 years, initially working at Speakeasy Bar where many referred to him as “the Little Chef”. He later worked at Rafters Rastro Secondhand Shop. He will be sadly missed by Ann and all who knew him. Garden is her attempt to remedy that - creating a place with a fun, friendly atmosphere and great home-style Scottish food and drink for everyone to enjoy! Showing Scottish football too of course. And yes before you ask… she will have deep-fried Mars Bars! Oh and Irn Bru of course. She’ll be serving a variety of breakfasts, snacks, lunches and homemade cakes. All food will be homemade and freshly prepared. She will also serve good quality beers and draft cider as well as cocktails. It’s due to open early October, be sure to try it out! New Insurance Broker Nerja Players The Nerja Players will begin their new season again on October 16, with a cold reading of the comedy Boeing Boeing. If you are interested in theatre and would like to come for a cold reading audition, Book Centre and as owner Leslie Hands commented: “Hopefully the first of many”. Leslie also revealed his plans for the future of the shop which include a major refurbishment, as well as many collaborations with different artists – both local and foreign. It has been over 35 years since Leslie’s dad – Derek first opened the shop and with its vast collection of varied books in many languages, this little gem of a book shop on c/ Granada is still a favourite amongst the local community and visitors from all over the globe. 20 A new insurance brokerage for the Costa del Sol area has been opened by experienced insurance expert Jayne Herridge.
